Steven J. Smith, age 40, of Fort Dodge, passed away from cancer on Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., July 20, at the Gunderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetary. Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Steven is survived by is wife Lisa; sons, Chase, Austyn, Brandon and Nicholas; parents Jim and Janet Smith; and brothers, Gary, David and Ron. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Steven J. Smith was born on February 18, 1962, in Fort Dodge, to Jim and Janet (Porter) Smith. Steven was a graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High. On Nov. 11, 1989, Steven married Lisa Chase in Fort Dodge. He spent 15 years with the Pepsi Cola Co. in Fort Dodge, and was employed by Prinsco Inc. at the time of his passing.
Steven loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting and fishing, boating, water skiiing, biking and spending time with his children.
Memorials may be made to the discretion of the family.

I bought my first real car from Steve I think around 1978. It was a 1967 GTO that had been painted blue with White flames by Curt Bacon. I still remember going to Steve's house to pick up the car and talking with Steve for at least an hour about cars and my new GTO. Everytime I would see him he would ask me "hows the Goat running?"Though I didnt know Steve all that well I was friends with his brother Dave and worked with him at Pizza Hut during high school. Dave also loved muscle cars and had one of the coolest 1967 Camero's around!
I was very sorry to hear that Steve had passed away.
