John Olmstead

John C. Olmstead, 58, of Fort Dodge died Sunday, August 2, 2020 at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Burial will be at Otho Cemetery.

Johnny is survived by his daughter, Noelle; father, John; and sister, Danita "Dede" Burbank (Mark Alcorn) all of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Hayes) Olmstead.

John Charles Olmstead was born October 24, 1961 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School and then attended ICCC. He went to the police academy at Camp Dodge and joined the Fort Dodge Police Department in 1988. In 2011, John retired as a sergeant from FDPD. John liked taking trips on his motorcycle. Johnny had a sense of humor and was often found spending time with his dog, Tazer and cat, Watson. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also was known for his love of cooking.

Memorials may be left at the family's discretion.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired Fort Dodge Police Department Sergeant John Olmstead. Sgt. Olmstead retired in August 2011 after 23 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Fort Dodge. He will be remembered by us for his humor and generosity, and we are so grateful for his service. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
