How did you happen to select/end up in your career?

In high school I worked at Sears in the automotive department. I had always enjoyed working on cars. After looking into other professions I deciced to stay with what I knew. I continued working at Sears in the automotive department until an opening at Firestone Tire came along. After 3 years there I had enough and decided to try things on my own, so in 1986 I started Doughty auto.

School Stories: What are your favorite memories of school? Any funny or heartwarming memories you'd like to share? Did you attend college (if so where) ?

Friday and Saturday nights shaggin the drag. The numerous parties. Getting in trouble in clay class. Demonstrating all star wretling moves on unsuspecting sophmores in wood shop our senior year. The motorcycle flyin down the hallway and the tear gas bomb our junior year. Staggering into numerous school dances. Sitting in someone elses desk, and they in yours when you notice the substitute teacher before class. Sneaking into Don Carlsons Office during lunch to sort through detention slips and remove mine and Mark Mahrenholtz's on several occasions. Catching a mouse, in a trap, in cooking class and Mrs Enke having to scrape it out of the microwave. Putting a Ted Nugent Cassette into a film projector in general business.Ted got out a lot of obscenitys before Mr Linney pulled it out. AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON

Do you still have family around Fort Dodge?

My mom and dad still live here.

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

Still see many classmates that live in Fort Dodge. Some of them are customers at the shop. The funny thing is some of them I didnt know went to school with us until recently. Majority of the guys I ran around with in high school moved away and have lost contact with them.

What do you want to do or accomplish before you "kick the bucket"?

Work less, play more.

Any favorite books, movies or vacations that you'd recommend to others?

My favorite vacation spots are the Rocky Mountain states. Our snowmobile trips out west are unbelievable. The scenery in the back country that is only accessible by hiking or snowmobile is beyond description.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I began racing in 1981. I raced stock cars at area tracks. I have raced at Webster City, Jefferson, Belmond, Algona, Alta, Audobon, Alta, Allison, Fairmont,MN, Boone, Knoxville, Independence, Des Moines and Fort Dodge. I currently run only on Fri. nights here in Fort Dodge. At Time in the 80s and 90s we would run 3 and 4 nights per week. This will be my final season but I have really enjoyed meeting all the great people in the sport. We have had some success and won track championships at Webster City, and Fort Dodge in recent years. I have been involved in snowmobiling since high school days also. I take most of my vacations during the winter months. We use to go north to Wisconsin and Minnesota on winter trips, but made the mistake of going west to the Rocky Mountains. The area is addictive so now, for the last 15 years, we head that way as much as we can. I also enjoy touring and sightseeing in the summer months from the seat of my Harley. I have been to Sturgis the last few years and plan on going back this year.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I feel we were so fortunate that we grew up in such an awsome time.
